"Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?" was Carole King's first hit at age 17, and she went on to sell more than 75 million records worldwide. “Way Over Yonder” was on her 1971 album, “Tapestry,” which received four Grammys and was certified 14x Platinum as one of the best-selling records of all time. Among her honours and awards, in 2021 Carole King was the first woman awarded The Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a second time, becoming the first person inducted separately as a songwriter and a performer. |

Many songwriters say the best songs begin with a “stolen” line or phrase. Amanda McBroom heard a song with the line, “Your love is alike a razor; my heart is just a scar,” and it set off a flurry of thoughts about what love is and isn’t. Ten minutes later, she’d written, “The Rose.” It was recorded by Bette Midler as the title track for the 1979 movie of the same name. |
